USS Aspheros

Ship History

The new Galaxy class ship is put forward to the board of Starship review. They like and accept the ideas. Construction begins for 17 Galaxy class ships. The USS Galaxy (prototype), USS Enterprise, USS Yamato, USS Magellan, USS Odyssey and the USS Aspheros are the only ships which complete production before better ship designs are found which have a much lower budget.

The USS Aspheros was constructed at the Mars Utopia Planitia facilities, as seen below.

This picture was taken in 2363, 2 weeks before the launch of the Aspheros. Final checks are being completed on the Life Support system as many malfunctions had caused main power to go down. Design faults in the engines meant that the plasma flow was too great for the engines to handle. So several weeks were spent redesigning the whole engine system. The end result, however, was an improved speed ratio, with a maximum speed of warp 9.7, unlinke the Enterprise who's maximum warp is warp 9.3. The Enterprise was launched 2 months earlier but the Megellan and the Aspheros were still in dock.
The Aspheros was finally launched from drydock in 2363, a total of 3 montsh after the Enterprise. However, the Aspheros had some improvements the Enterprise didn't. Some of them were better shields and the new Type VII photon torpedo.
This is Captain Sopok, the first Captain of the Aspheros. His brother, was Commander Sonak, who unfortunately died in a transporter malfunction while serving aboard the original USS Enterprise during the V'Ger crisis.
It was aboard the USS Aspheros, that the Cardassian non agression treaty was signed after the border wars. Several very high profile personalities attended the signing which were held on the Observation deck, converted in to one big conference room. It was Captain Sopak himself who had forged half of the deals with the Cardassians.
It was in 2373 that the Aspheros had its first majour upgrade, in response to the Dominion threat and the Klingon skirmishes just having finished, the ship was over 10 years old. So, for 6 months, it was upgraded and refitted with newer and better equipment. Captain Sopak was promoted to Commadore and transferred off the Aspheros and to Vulcan.
Upon the promotion of Sopak to Commadore, the Aspheros had no Captain. And in stepped Admiral Owen Paris, who took command during the Dominion war. The USS Aspheros became the flagship for the 9th fleet.
The Aspheros prevailed through the Dominion War until the battle of Chintoka. There, upon making a run at some orbital weapons platforms, it was ambushed by Jem'Hadar attack cruisers and badly damaged by the weapons platforms. The ship lay in space, broken and battered, Admiral Paris on the bridge attempting to maintain order.
The ship, now defeated, was tugged back to Starbase 375, and then on to Earth, where a another massive refitting and upgrading process went on by order of Admiral Paris. The Aspheros was out 3 months later with all new equipment.
Admiral Paris then lead the ship in to battle in the final days of the Dominion War. The Aspheros was the 2nd XO warship to Admiral Ross's USS Columbia and Captain Sisko's Defiant. The ship was part of the taskforce that invaded Cardassian space and ended the war. Commander Alex Perry was serving aboard the Aspheros at this time as ship's XO.
Admiral Paris was reassigned to Earth, to work with the Pathfinder and the Blue Moon projects. In his place, he promoted Commander Perry to Captain, and instated him as Captain of the Aspheros. Most of the old crew were reassigned to other positions in the Federation, and the ship, was sent to serve as a part of Tranquility Fleet where it has currnetly docked.
